Thierry is averaging 2.4 steals per game this season and leads the team.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Naismith Awards announced the 2025 Naismith Women’s Defensive Player of the Year presented by MOLECULE Watch List on Wednesday. Senior guard/forward Taylor Thierry was among 15 players to be named to the list, five of which play in the Big Ten. This is Thierry’s first appearance on a national watch list.
Thierry was most recently named to the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll on Jan. 27 – the fourth weekly Big Ten honor in her career. She has previously earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team (twice), All-Big Ten Defensive Team (2023) and Big Ten All-Tournament Team (2023). Thierry ranks 11th in program history with 207 career steals, just seven shy of entering the top 10. A well-rounded player throughout her career, she also ranks second in field goal percentage (.606), 18th in rebounds (625), 20th in free throws made (228), 23rd in free throws attempted (329) and 30th in scoring (1,159).
This season, Thierry is averaging 10.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting 19-of-36 (.528) from behind the arc. She ranks second in the Big Ten in steals per game and recorded a career-high seven steals on Dec. 14, 2024 against Youngstown State. This is her third consecutive season averaging at least 10 points and five rebounds per game.
