COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Basketball Hall of Fame’s Naismith Starting 5 committee, in collaboration with the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association, named the 10 finalists for the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award on Wednesday. The award recognized the top small forward in women’s college basketball. Junior forward Cotie McMahon was named as a top 10 finalist for the second-consecutive season after finishing as one of the top five finalists in 2023-24.
This season, McMahon was named to the preseason watch lists for the Cheryl Miller Award, Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award, also being named to the Wooden Award’s midseason top 25. She was named to the Big Ten Preseason Team by both the media and the league’s coaches and earned a spot on the Big Ten weekly honor roll on Dec. 9.
McMahon leads the Buckeye offense with 16.5 points per game this season, has 15 games in double figures and four games with 20 or more points. She has two double-doubles this season and is averaging 4.9 rebounds per game. Fans can support their favorite players in the remaining rounds by participating in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, starting Friday, February 7, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.
The final five candidates for the award will be released to the public on a day by day basis starting the week of March 4, with voting set to follow on March 8. The list is fluid throughout the whole process and players have the ability to play themselves on or off our list until the winner is finally selected.
