Nebraska (15-8, 5-7 B1G) returned from a 2-0 swing on the West Coast with an 86-72 win at Washington on Wednesday. The Huskers overcame a 10-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Huskies, 49-25, in the second half, holding the Huskies to 40 percent shooting, including 1-of-9 from 3-point range. The Huskers shot 52 percent from the field, including 11-of-19 from long distance, and put three players in double figures. Brice Williams led NU with 23 points while Juwan Gary (17) and Connor Essegian (16) also finished in double figures. With the win over then No. 16 Oregon and Washington, Nebraska joined Michigan, Purdue and Illinois as teams who swept its West Coast games.

The Huskers return home for two major Quad 1 opportunities beginning with Sunday’s matchup with Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 14-9 on the season and have won four of their last five games following a 73-70 win over No. 18 Maryland Thursday evening. In that game, OSU overcame a 17-point deficit behind a game-high 31 points from Bruce Thornton, who hit a game-winning 3-pointer with less than eight seconds left to cap the comeback.
Sunday’s Game Is Nebraska’s Heart Association Game
Nebraska men’s basketball has partnered with the American Heart Association to help spread awareness of cardiovascular health for Sunday’s game against Ohio State. February is also American Heart Month, as heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Nebraska Head Coach Fred Hoiberg‘s playing condition ended in 2005 because of an aneurysm in his aortic root and has benefited by the advances in cardiovascular health over the past two decades. Some of the activations for Sunday’s game include:
- Pregame will feature a CPR demonstration with Lincoln Fire Department on the concourse above section 103.
- Fans can pick up I Heart Nebraska T-Shirt while supplies last.
- The Husker basketball program will recognize a member of the Lincoln community for their work during the first timeout.
- Both Nebraska and Ohio State’s coaching staffs will be wearing pins on Sunday to raise awareness.

Ohio State comes to Lincoln with a 14-9 record following a 73-70 win over No. 18 Maryland on Thursday in Columbus. Coach Jake Diebler is in his first full season after taking over in mid-February. He went 8-3 and guided the Buckeyes to the NIT to remove the interim tag.
The Buckeyes went 8-3 during non-conference action, highlighted by neutral-site wins over Texas and Kentucky. The losses were to current top-10 teams Auburn and Texas A&M and a one-point overtime loss to Pittsburgh. In Big Ten Conference play, OSU started 2-5 but turned its season around with a win at Purdue, snapping the Boilermakers home win streak. That started a three-game win streak before OSU fell at Illinois on Feb. 5.
OSU averages 79.7 points per game and is one of the Big Ten’s best 3-point shooting teams, averaging 8.0 3-pointers per game on 37.4 percent shooting. The Buckeyes have four players averaging double figures, led by junior guard Bruce Thornton and sophomore Devin Royal. Thornton leads the Buckeyes in scoring (17.7 ppg) and assists (4.3 apg) and sophomore Devin Royal, who averaged 14.3 ppg and a team-high 7.5 rpg. Series History: Ohio State leads the all-time series, 21-7, in a series that dates back to 1936. The Buckeyes are 17-5 against the Huskers since Nebraska joined the Big Ten in 2011-12, but Nebraska has won three of the last four matchups dating back to March of 2022. Sunday’s game will be just the ninth time in 23 meetings that OSU has not been ranked at game time against the Huskers since Nebraska joined the Big Ten. Nebraska has won the last two meetings in Lincoln, including last season’s game when Rienk Mast had 34 points and 10 rebounds.
