COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State returns home to face No. 18 Maryland on Thursday night. The Buckeyes are looking to even the season series as Maryland scored more points in the first meeting in College Park. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on FS1. The all star crew Jason Benetti and Bill Raftery will call the action.

The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.

  • The series between Ohio State and Maryland is close as the Terrapins hold a slim 12-11 lead. The Buckeyes have won the last four meetings in Columbus and Maryland has won each of the last three in College Park. The overall point total in the 23 meetings is also close as the Buckeyes have scored just two more points, 1,632-1,630.
  • Since Maryland joined the Big Ten prior to the 2014-15 season, the Terrapins lead the series 10-7.
  • Earlier this year, Maryland blitzed the Buckeyes in the first half and would roll to an 83-59 victory in the Big Ten opener for each team on Dec. 4 in College Park. No one played particularly well for the Buckeyes, but Devin Royal did finish with 18 points and nine rebounds. Ja’Kobi Gillespie had 23 points to lead the Terps, who forced 17 OSU turnovers in the game.
  • The Buckeyes had their three-game win streak snapped at No. 18 Illinois on Sunday, falling 87-79. Ohio State had its chances as it led by 11 early in the second half but Illinois shot 64 percent in the second half to comeback for the victory. Three Buckeyes scored 20 or more points, led by Devin Royal with 29 points and seven rebounds. Bruce Thornton finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists while John Mobley Jr. also had 20 points on 4-of-8 from long range.
  • Thornton has made 15-of-25 (60.0 percent) three-point attempts over the last four games. That is by far the best stretch of shooting the three in his career.
  • Thornton is three points from 1,300 in his career. He just past Buckeye legends Jared Sullinger (1,282) and Clark Kellogg (1,285) last game and is a point away from catching E.J. Liddell on the career scoring list. He’s also just 17 points away from tying the rosie-cheeked point guard Aaron Craft.
  • Mobley Jr. has made 15 three-pointers and has averaged over 16 points and four assists per game over the last four games. He’s the only player in the Big Ten with a three-point make in every game this season.
  • The Buckeyes are currently 27th in the NET ratings.
  • Maryland lost both games on its west coast swing to Oregon and Washington but has since won six of seven games with the only loss being an overtime setback at Northwestern. The Terrapins are in the Top 20 in the country in scoring at 83.0 ppg and are fifth in the country in scoring margin.
