- Ohio State officially leads the all-time series with Penn State 41-21, and that includes a 15-10 mark in State College.
- The Buckeyes have played four games at Rec Hall and have a 2-2 record in those games. They lost in 1975 before winning in 1993 and 1994 and losing the most recent meeting in 1995. The overall point total in those four games is separated by just seven points, 274-267 in favor of Penn State.
- Last year, the teams split their two meetings. Penn State won the first game in State College by erasing an 18-point second half deficit to win 83-80. In the second meeting, the Buckeyes scored the first 16 points of the game and this time would hold on in a 79-67 win.
- Junior Evan Mahaffey is a Penn State transfer and he played well in the two games vs. his former team last year. He dished out a career-high six assists to go along with five points and five rebounds in the game in State College. He then scored a career-high 16 points in the win in Columbus.
- Ohio State assistant coach and Penn State all-time leading scorer Talor Battle also returns to State College on Thursday. Battle was 2-4 as an assistant coach with Northwestern over the last three years vs. Penn State, including 1-1 in State College. This will be his first game as a coach or a player inside Rec Hall.
- The Buckeyes have won their last two games, including a thrilling 73-70 victory at No. 11 Purdue last week. The comfortable 82-65 win over Iowa on Monday snapped a streak of five-consecutive one-possession games for Ohio State.
- The Buckeyes are currently 28th in the NET rankings.
- Micah Parrish scored 17 points in the season-opening win over Texas way back on Nov. 4. Since then, he hadn’t scored 17 points in a game until his most recent run. Parrish scored 19 points vs. Indiana on Jan. 17, a career-high 22 points in the win at Purdue and then a team-high 18 points in the win over Iowa. He is just 29 points away from 1,500 in his career.
- Penn State has lost six of its last seven and comes into Thursday at 3-7 in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions are near the bottom of the league in field goal defense (44.4 percent) but top the conference in steals per game at 9.0.
