TUESDAY: Miami returns to Millett Hall for its eighth conference game of the season versus Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. Entering this game, Miami ranks fifth nationally in effective field goal percentage (0.586), eighth in field goal percentage (.499), ninth in three-point percentage (.394), 12th in threes per game (10.6), 28th in turnovers forced per game (15.37), 30th in scoring offense (82.4) and 37th in turnover margin (3.1). Miami also leads the MAC in seven statistical categories, including steals per game (8.6).
RECENT ACTION: The Miami University men’s basketball team dropped to Akron Saturday afternoon 102-75 in James A. Rhodes Arena. Peter Suder led all scorers with 18 points, while Brant Byers added 14 and Evan Ipsaro totaled 12. Prior to this loss, the RedHawks had won eight straight games for the first time since the 1996-97 season. The Red and White also started conference play 6-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
ABOUT EASTERN MICHIGAN: Eastern Michigan is coming off a 13-18 (9-6 MAC) season in 2023-24. Head coach Stan Heath is in his fourth season with the Eagles. Heading into the 2024-25 season, the MAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll picked the Eagles to finish ninth in the conference.
Eastern Michigan is currently 10-9 (4-3 MAC), having won its last three games. The Eagles have four players who average double figures in scoring, which include Da’Sean Nelson (15.9), Jalen Terry (15.1), Christian Henry (14.9) and Jalin Billingsley (11.3). Terry and Henry each lead the team in assists per game (3.4). Terry also leads the team with an average of 1.5 steals per game. Nelson has recorded the most rebounds each game (5.3) and leads the Eagles with 0.7 blocks per contest. He is currently fourth in the MAC for his scoring average.
THE SERIES WITH THE EAGLES: Tuesday will mark the 85th time Miami and Eastern Michigan have faced off. The RedHawks head into this game leading the series 55-29. Miami also has the advantage at home in the series, 31-8. The last time Miami faced off with the Eagles, the Red and White secured a 52-37 win in Ypsilanti. This was the fewest points Miami had allowed in a game since November 2008.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks stay at home for a conference contest against Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3:30 p.m. This is also alumni weekend, with many men’s basketball greats making a return, such as Wayne Embry and Wally Szczerbiak.
