Hauschild Has Spent Nearly 50 Years As An Employee And Student
DAYTON – The University of Dayton Division of Athletics has announced that veteran Director of Athletics Communication Media Relations Doug Hauschild will retire at the end of June after 50 years at the University as both a student and employee.
“We celebrate not just a remarkable career, but also a legacy of professionalism, dedication, and Flyer passion,” remarked UD Vice President/Director of Athletics Neil Sullivan. “Doug has been the cornerstone of our public relations efforts, always going above and beyond to build relationships and elevate our brand with unwavering grace and expertise. On behalf of Flyer fans everywhere, we thank Doug for his extraordinary service and being such an incredible part of our athletic programs. While he will still be around, we wish him and his family all the joy and fulfillment in this new chapter with some extra family time.”
Hauschild is a Dayton graduate, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications in 1981 having previously worked as a student assistant in the Athletics Communication office. He met his wife Patty while working for the Flyers and she has been a steady presence at UD events along with their children Kim (Hockett), Rob, and Mike. Mike was also a standout pitcher on the Dayton Baseball team and played professionally for 10 seasons in the Houston Astro, Texas Ranger, Toronto Blue Jay and Chicago Cub organizations, with major league appearances as a Ranger and Blue Jay..
Hauschild serves as the chair of the Dayton Athletics Hall of Fame committee and has served as Media Coordinator for every NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament First Four since its inception. Along with those responsibilities, Hauschild has served as the primary contact for men’s basketball and football at Dayton.
Hauschild was inducted into the College Sports Communicators (formerly known as the College Sports Information Directors of America) Hall of Fame in 2020. He received the Bob Kenworthy Award for his community service at the 2009 College Sports Information Directors of America Convention. He has also served on the CoSIDA Academic All-America committee since 1993 and earned the Lester Jordan Award for service to the Academic All-America program in 2021.
Following his retirement, Hauschild will continue to serve on the Dayton Athletics Hall of Fame Committee and act as the Media Coordinator for NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games at UD Arena.
