COLUMBUS, Ohio— The Columbus Fury (0-1) kicked off their second season in the Pro Volleyball Federation on Saturday, January 11th falling to the San Diego Mojo (1-1) 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 19-25, 22-25). Megan Lush and Izabella Rapacz led the Fury with 12 kills in the match while Lush and Paula Cerame led with 20 digs. Wilma Rivera had 42 assists.
SET ONE
The opening set of the night was tightly contested. The Fury bounced back and forth with the Mojo before going on a 4-0 run to become the first team to reach 15 points in the set. San Diego responded scoring five straight points of their own to tie the game at 15 apiece. The Mojo took control of the game after a Columbus timeout and closed the set with a 10-3 run to win 25-18.
SET TWO
The second set was much like the first with back-and-forth scoring, however Columbus maintained a slight advantage. The Fury finally pulled away late in the set after going on a 4-1 scoring run thanks to kills from Kaylee Cox, Megan Lush, and Abby Walker and an ace from Wilma Rivera to win their first set of the 2025 regular season, 25-21.
SET THREE
San Diego opened the third set with an 8-3 start forcing Columbus Head Coach Ángel Pérez into an early timeout. The Fury regained their composure and chipped away at the Mojo lead closing it down to 8-10. San Diego responded with a run of their own taking the biggest lead of the set at 17-11. It didn’t keep the Fury down however as they rallied for the second time in the set to go on an 8-2 run tying the game at 19-19. Unfortunately for the Fury, the effort was in vain as the Mojo responded with a four-point run to win the set 25-19.
SET FOUR
The final set of the night was very similar to the third as both sides took scoring runs. San Diego opened with a 5-0 run before the Fury rallied back to tie the game at 7-7. The Mojo maintained a lead throughout the set before a Columbus rally saw them tie the match 18-18. The momentum continued to flow for the Fury as the side took a 20-19 lead enter the final moments. The Mojo came back however with a run of points of their own to lead 23-21 and eventually winning the set 25-22.
The Columbus Fury continues the 2025 regular season on the road against the Atlanta Vibe on Thursday, January 16th at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on YouTube.
