Musketeers are shooting to snap a two-game losing streak.

 

CINCINNATI — The Xavier University Musketeers, 9-7 overall and 1-4 in the BIG EAST Conference, visit the DePaul University Blue Demons, 9-7 overall and 0-5 in the BIG EAST, on Saturday afternoon in Chicago. XU is coming off an 82-72 loss to St. John’s on Tuesday, while DePaul fell in overtime at Seton Hall on Wednesday, 85-80.

Xavier is entering a stretch of three out of four games on the road. In addition to the DePaul game, XU has upcoming road trips to Marquette (Jan. 18) and St. John’s (Jan. 22). XU hosts Villanova on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

• Xavier plays three of its next four games on the road with trips to take on DePaul (Jan. 11), Marquette (Jan. 18) and St. John’s (Jan. 22). XU hosts Villanova next Tuesday.

• Xavier leads the BIG EAST in fastbreak points (sixth in the nation in at 17.9 ppg.) and is second in 3-point percentage (18th in the nation at .389) and free-throw percentage (13th in the nation at .789). Xavier is third in the BIG EAST in assist-to-turnover ratio (44th in the nation at 1.48), while ranking fourth in assists per game (35th in the nation at 17.1 apg.).
• Xavier graduate student Zach Freemantle, preseason Second Team All-BIG EAST, is coming off a game-high 22-point effort vs. St. John’s. Freemantle, who missed three games due to a lower body injury, returned to action last Friday at Georgetown. Freemantle leads the team in scoring (third in the BIG EAST at 17.2 ppg.) and rebounding (fifth in the BIG EAST at 7.3 rpg.).
• Xavier junior Ryan Conwell, preseason Third Team All-BIG EAST, is second on the team and tied for seventh in the BIG EAST in scoring at 15.9 ppg. He has hit at least one 3-pointers in all 16 games; he ranks third in the BIG EAST and 41st in the nation at 3.1 3-point field goals made per game. His 49 total 3-pointers made rank second in the BIG EAST and 19th in the nation.
• Xavier graduate student Dayvion McKnight, preseason Second Team All-BIG EAST, leads XU in assists at 4.9 apg. (sixth in the BIG EAST) and is third in the BIG EAST and 25th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.16. He is seventh in the BIG EAST in FT% at .842.
• Xavier sophomore Dailyn Swain contributed his fourth-straight double-figure scoring game with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds vs. St. John’s. Swain, who is fifth in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage at .557, is eighth in the BIG EAST in free-throw percentage at .833. He is tied for eighth in the BIG EAST in steals at 1.6 spg.
• Xavier graduate student Marcus Foster is averaging 10.6 ppg. in BIG EAST Conference play, one of five XU players averaging in double figures in league games.

• Xavier graduate student Jerome Hunter has started all five of XU’s BIG EAST games, his first five starts of the season.
• Xavier graduate student Dante Maddox Jr., who had 14 points and six assists vs. Seton Hall on Dec. 31, set Xavier career highs for points (22) and 3-pointers (5) at UConn on Dec. 18.
