SATURDAY: Miami returns home for its third conference contest of the season in Millett Hall on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3:30 p.m. Miami is 2-0 to start Mid-American Conference play for the first time since the 2010-11 season. With a win on Saturday, the RedHawks would begin conference play 3-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 season. Heading into this game, the RedHawks rank eighth nationally in threes per game (11.3), eighth in three-point percentage (.402), 12th in turnover margin (5.1), 16th in turnovers forced per game (16.21) and 18th in field goal percentage (.496).
LAST TIME OUT: Kam Craft scored a game-high 28 points and the Miami University men’s basketball team posted an 80-72 road win at Ball State Tuesday night in Mid-American Conference action. Peter Suder and Eian Elmer added 11 points apiece for the RedHawks, while Mekhi Cooper chipped in 10. The RedHawks picked up their fourth straight win, matching the longest streak under Travis Steele (Feb. 18-28, 2023). Reece Potter set a new career high with five assists, and Miami produced 20 or more assists as a team for the fourth consecutive game. The RedHawks committed under 10 turnovers for the fifth time this season.
ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGAN: Western Michigan is coming off a 12-20 (9-9 MAC) season in 2023-24. Head coach Dwayne Stephens is in his third season with the Broncos. Heading into the 2024-25 season, the MAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll picked the Broncos to finish 10th in the conference.
Western Michigan is currently 3-11 (0-2 MAC), having dropped its last seven games. The Broncos have four players who average double figures in scoring, which includes Chansey Willis Jr. (15.8), Markhi Strickland (11.5), Owen Lobsinger (11.1) and JaVaughn Hannah (10.6). Willis Jr. also leads the team in assists per game (5.7). Lobsinger has recorded the most rebounds per game (6.2).Strickland leads the team in steals per game (1.2) and Max Burton leads the team in blocks per contest (0.5).
THE SERIES WITH THE BRONCOS: Saturday will mark the 142nd time Miami and Western Michigan have faced off. The RedHawks head into this game leading the series 89-52. The Red and White lead the series in Oxford 54-13. The last time Miami faced off with the Broncos, Miami fell 58-77 on Feb. 20, 2024 in Kalamazoo.
