ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 25-ranked University of Michigan women’s basketball team (10-4, 1-2 Big Ten) will return home to Crisler for the first time in nearly a month, hosting No. 9-ranked Ohio State (14-0, 3-0 Big Ten) on Wednesday night (Jan. 8) at 7 p.m.

Notes

• Michigan returns to Crisler Center for the first time since Dec. 14 after playing four straight away from Ann Arbor.

• No. 9 Ohio State is the fifth top-10 opponent for Michigan this season. U-M has faced the No. 1 team twice (No. 1 South Carolina, No. 1 UCLA) as the only team nationally to square off against both top-ranked squads. Michigan’s NET strength of schedule is 17, ranking third among Big Ten teams.

• This is the lone meeting between Michigan and Ohio State this season after the teams split the series last year with each team winning at home. Michigan swept the season series from Ohio State in 2021-22, with the Buckeyes returning the favor in 2022-23. Eight of Michigan’s 17 wins against OSU in program history have come under head coach Kim Barnes Arico.

• Michigan is in the midst of facing three straight top-10 conference opponents in No. 4 USC, No. 1 UCLA and No. 9 Ohio State. Four of Michigan’s last five games have been against top-10 teams after facing then-No. 10 Oklahoma at the Jumpman Invitational (Dec. 17).

• The game will feature four of the Big Ten’s top-scoring freshmen in Syla Swords (16.4 ppg), Olivia Olson (15.4 ppg), Ohio State’s Jaloni Cambridge (13.4 ppg) and Mila Holloway (10.2 ppg). There are seven freshmen in the Big Ten averaging double figures in scoring.

• The Wolverines are looking for their first ranked win of the season. U-M is 0-4 against ranked teams this season, with all four previous opponents ranking in the top 10. Michigan has nine top-10 wins in program history.

• Michigan is 7-0 at Crisler this season, averaging 91.4 points per game and allowing just 50.6 points per game. U-M is shooting 50.1 percent from the floor at home, while holding opponents to just 35.2 percent shooting.

• U-M leads the conference and is 11th nationally in three-point percentage defense, holding opponents to 24.1 percent shooting from distance.

• Michigan stayed in the Associated Press poll for the sixth straight week, checking in at No. 25.

• Michigan will continue Big Ten action on the road this weekend, heading to Purdue to face the Boilers on Saturday (Jan. 11) at 2 p.m.
