WASHINGTON, D.C. –Zach Freemantle led four Musketeers in double figures with 16 points but Xavier fell, 69-63, at Georgetown on Friday evening.
Xavier moved to 9-6 (1-3 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas moved to 12-2 (3-0 BIG EAST).
Next up, Xavier returns home on Tuesday, January 7, to host St. John’s at Cintas Center. The Musketeers and the Red Storm get underway at 6:30 p.m. on FS1.
NOTABLE
- Georgetown opened the game with a 6-0 run and led by as many as 13 in the first half before a 9-1 Xavier run, featuring four points from Zach Freemantle, made it a two-possession game going into the final six minutes of the half. The Musketeers would get as close as two in the final three minutes of the half before going into the break trailing 30-24. Ryan Conwell led the Musketeers with six points.
- The Hoyas maintained the lead in the second half, outscoring Xavier 11-2 over a stretch to lead by as many as 12 after the break. The Musketeers chipped away at the lead before an 8-0 Musketeer run pulled Xavier within one in the final five minutes. With the Musketeers trailing 60-59 in the final three minutes, GU scored five straight to make it a two-possession game before winning, 69-63.
- Zach Freemantle finished with a team-high 16 points after scoring 11 in the second half, and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in his first game back after suffering a lower body injury against Cincinnati on Dec. 14.
- Dayvion McKnight added 12 points for the Musketeers and finished with a team-high four assists. Ryan Conwell finished with 12 points as well.
- Dailyn Swain scored 10 points in the second half after shooting 3-of-4 from the floor, finishing the game with 11 points.
- Xavier was held to 35.1 percent from the floor overall, connecting on 26.3 shots from outside. The Hoyas connected on 44.6 of their field goals, shooting 22.2 percent from outside.
- Georgetown finished with a 40-35 advantage on the boards.
