COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a classic game of runs between team two quality teams, No. 18 Michigan State had the last push as the Spartans came away with a 69-62 win on Friday night in Value City Arena.
Ohio State is now 9-5 on the season and 1-2 in Big Ten play.
Fifth-year guard Micah Parrish led the Buckeyes with 13 points on 3-of-6 from long range. Bruce Thornton added 10 points, two assists and two steals. Sean Stewart was impactful in his time on the court, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds to go along with four points and two steals.
The lead changed hands eight times on the night. Michigan State led 37-29 at halftime and shoved the lead to as much as 14 points early in the second half. But the Buckeyes clawed all the way back and took a 50-49 lead with just under nine minutes left in the game.
Michigan State responded with an 8-0 run and wouldn’t trail the rest of the way. Parrish had a jumper and then a three-pointer to cut the lead to two at 57-55 with five minutes to go but another 9-4 run by the Spartans put the game away.
The numbers were fairly even across the board, but the Spartans made seven more free throws and ultimately won the game by that margin.
