DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University has accepted an invitation to play in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl and will meet Ole Miss in Jacksonville, Fla., on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Kickoff from EverBank Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m., and the game will be televised live by ESPN. The meeting on the gridiron between the Blue Devils (9-3) and the Rebels (9-3) will be the first between the two teams and Duke’s first appearance in the Gator Bowl.

“We are thrilled to accept an invitation to play in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Nina King said. “Coach Diaz, our coaches and staff and, most importantly, our student-athletes have earned the opportunity to play in this prestigious bowl game. Special thanks to Greg McGarity and the entire staff at the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl for their valued partnership with the ACC and efforts in providing a first-class event for our program, institution, alumni and fans. Congratulations to Coach Kiffin and the Ole Miss program for a terrific regular season and we look forward to competing on January 2 at EverBank Stadium.”

Duke’s defense heads into the bowl season leading the country in fumbles recovered (14) and standing second nationally in tackles for loss per game (9.17), third in sacks per game (3.33) and sixth in total turnovers gained (26). The Blue Devils are led by first team All-ACC selection Chandler Rivers, who has recorded 52 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, three interceptions, nine pass breakups, two caused fumbles, two quarterback pressures and one fumble recovery. Defensive ends Wesley Williams and Vincent Anthony Jr. own a combined 23.0 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks while Duke’s quartet of linebackers – Cameron BergeronTre FreemanAlex Howard and Ozzie Nicholas – have combined for 308 tackles, 28.5 TFL, 10.0 sacks and 10 turnovers (four INTs and six fumble recoveries).

Offensively, Duke is one of four schools nationally with multiple wide receivers with 740 or more receiving yards and seven or more touchdown catches as All-ACC picks Jordan Moore and Eli Pancol both surpass those markers. Quarterback Maalik Murphy has already set the Duke single-season record with 26 touchdown passes and is 67 yards shy of becoming the fifth Blue Devil quarterback to throw for 3,000-plus yards in a season. Additionally, All-ACC selections Brian Parker II and Caleb Krings anchor a Blue Devil offensive line that ranks second in the ACC in fewest sacks allowed per game (1.00).

Duke holds an all-time record of 8-8 in bowl games and enters this year’s postseason tilt having won five consecutive postseason contests, tied for the second-longest streak nationally. The Blue Devils have also appeared in the Rose Bowl (1938 & 1941 seasons), Sugar Bowl (1944), Orange Bowl (1954 & 1957), Cotton Bowl (1960), All American Bowl (1989), Hall of Fame Bowl (1994), Belk Bowl (2012), Chick-fil-A Bowl (2013), Hyundai Sun Bowl (2014), Pinstripe Bowl (2015), Quick Lane Bowl (2017), Walk-On’s Independence Bowl (2018), Military Bowl (2022) and 76® Birmingham Bowl (2023).
