Musketeers are shooting for their first BIG EAST victory.

 

CINCINNATI — The Xavier University Musketeers, 8-5 overall and 0-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, host the Seton Hall University Pirates, 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the BIG EAST, on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. at Cintas Center. Xavier is shooting to snap a three-game losing streak. XU has lost three-straight games to AP Top 25 teams by a combined 10 points, including a pair of road games.

Xavier has been idle since falling 72-20 to No. 9 Marquette on Dec. 21 at Cintas Center.

X FACTORS

• Xavier, 8-5 overall and 0-2 in the BIG EAST, is coming off losses in its first two league games, 72-70 to No. 9 Marquette on Dec. 21 and 94-89 in overtime at No. 11 UConn on Dec. 18.

• Xavier leads the BIG EAST in fastbreak points (seventh in the nation in at 18.2 ppg.) and is second in 3-point percentage (13th in the nation at .401). Xavier is third in the BIG EAST in free-throw percentage (22nd in the nation at .786), assists per game (30th in the nation at 17.5 apg.) and assist-to-turnover ratio (47th in the nation at 1.49).
• Xavier junior newcomer Ryan Conwell, a preseason Third Team All-BIG EAST selection who has scored 1,002 points so far in his collegiate career, leads XU’s active players in scoring at 16.2 ppg. (eighth in the BIG EAST).
• Xavier’s Ryan Conwell hit at least two 3-pointers in each of the first 12 games. That streak, which was snapped vs. Marquette on Dec. 21, was the longest streak of games with at least two treys in his career and the longest by any Xavier player ever. Conwell ranks second in the BIG EAST and 27th in the nation at 3.3 3-point field goals made per game.
• Xavier graduate student Marcus Foster led Xavier with 16 points (second-highest total of his Xavier career) vs. Marquette on Dec. 21, including three 3-pointers.
• Xavier graduate student Dayvion McKnight, preseason Second Team All-BIG EAST, scored 16 of his 18 points at UConn in the second half and overtime and followed that up with 14 points and six assists vs. Marquette. He leads XU in assists at 4.7 apg. (seventh in the BIG EAST) and is second in the BIG EAST and 32nd in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.05.
• Xavier sophomore Dailyn Swain, coming off a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds vs. Marquette, leads XU and is fifth in the BIG EAST in steals at 1.8 spg. He leads XU and is sixth in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage at 54.9 percent.
• Xavier graduate student Dante Maddox Jr. set Xavier career highs for points (22), 3-pointers (5) and minutes played (35) at UConn on Dec. 18.

• Xavier graduate student Zach Freemantle, preseason Second Team All-BIG EAST, is out indefinitely with a lower body injury. He was Leading the team in scoring (16.9 ppg.) and rebounding (7.7 rpg.) at the time of his injury.
