Wright State Raiders Men’s basketball closes 2024, with restart of Horizon League play this afternoon at Cleveland State, 3 PM

DAYTON – The Wright State men’s basketball team returns back to Horizon League play for its final 17 regular season contests beginning on Sunday afternoon as the Raiders travel to take on Cleveland State in tha 3 p.m. tipoff. Fans can follow the action several ways – via live stats, by watching on ESPN+ or by tuning in to the home for Raider Basketball 101.5 HANK FM and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play radio feed.

Fans can tune into 101.5 HANK FM live over the air in the Dayton metro area, as well stream the station live nationwide through a variety of free streaming apps. LAST TIME OUT
Alex Huibregtse’s potential game-tying three-pointer in the final moments rattled out as Wright State fell 86-82 last Saturday at Eastern Michigan. Jack Doumbia led four Raiders in double figures with 21 points, including 13 in the first half, as he added four rebounds, four steals and two assists, while Brandon Noel tallied 17 points and eight rebounds. Huibregtse hit four three-pointers on the way to his 14 points while passing out six assists, while Logan Woods chipped in 10 points of his own.

FAMILIAR FOES
Wright State has won 14 of the last 20 contests in the series overall, which is the longest series all-time in Raider history. The Raiders and Vikings have met 84 times previously, with Wright State coming away with 44 wins. The first-ever meeting came Feb. 12, 1972, a Cleveland State 72-62 win in Cleveland. The first matchup in Dayton came Jan. 21, 1974, a 69-45 Raider win (third meeting overall). Wright State’s last two wins in Cleveland have both come in overtime (Jan. 25, 2024 and Feb. 22, 2020) while the Raiders have won three of the last five meetings overall, including in the 2022 HL Tournament semifinals in Indianapolis.

LAST MEETING
Alex Huibregtse scored a career-high 32 points as Wright State handed Cleveland State its first home loss of the season with a 107-99 win back on Jan. 25, snapping Cleveland State’s 18-game home winning streak. The Raiders trailed by 12 at the half and 10 with seven minutes to play in regulation before battling back for the OT win.

THE VIKING AGE
Cleveland State enters Sunday winners of its last four games overall (two against non-Division I opponents) and is 6-2 at home to date. The Vikings are averaging 74.2 points per game with a 44.8 percent overall shooting mark.

BELIEVE-LAND
– Cleveland State is 8-6 overall with a 2-1 mark in the Horizon League, grabbing HL wins at Green Bay and at home against Oakland after dropping the HL opener at Milwaukee.
– Tevin Smith (14.1 ppg) and Tahj Staveskie (10.4 ppg) led the offensive attack, with Dlyan Arnett’s 7.9 rebounds per game tops on the roster.

HEAVY WORKLOAD
Alex Huibregtse has been on the floor for 88.2 percent of Wright State’s total minutes, while Brandon Noel has played 83.3 percent of the minutes. Keaton Norris has been on the floor 71.5 percent of the time (missed Dec. 21 game) and Logan Woods is at 63.8 percent.

PASSING OUT HELPERS
Wright State is assisting on 82.5 percent of its three-point shots to date, adding a 35.6 percent rate on overall two-point shooting, a mark that goes up to 48.3 percent in shots taken at the rim (within 4.5 feet of the basket).
