COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will wrap up non-conference play when it hosts Indiana State on Sunday afternoon at Value City Arena. Tip-off is set for noon and the game will be televised on BTN. Jack Kizer and Jordan Taylor will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- This will be the first meeting all-time between Ohio State and Indiana State.
- This will be the third of three scheduled games against teams from the Missouri Valley Conference this season. The Buckeyes beat Evansville and Valparaiso earlier this year and Devin Royal notched double-doubles in both games. He had his first collegiate double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds vs. Evansville and then a monster 31-point, 15-rebound night in the win over Valpo.
- Ohio State is coming off perhaps its most complete game of the season in an 85-65 victory over No. 4 Kentucky on Dec. 21 in the CBS Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Buckeyes held Kentucky, which entered the game as the nation’s top scoring offense, to a season-low in points and a season-low 29.8 shooting percentage.
- Point guard Bruce Thornton led the Buckeyes with a career-high 30 points on 13-of-14 from the free throw line vs. Kentucky. He’s just the fourth Buckeye to have a 30-point game at Madison Square Garden, joining Jay Burson, Kelvin Ransey and Jerry Lucas.
- Sophomore Aaron Bradshaw made his return to the court against his former team and all he did was make his first five shots and finish with 11 points and two steals in almost 18 minutes of action.
- Freshman John Mobley Jr. made his second collegiate start last week against Kentucky and he scored 15 points and three assists. He has eight assists and zero turnovers in his two starts while playing a season high in minutes in each game.
- Evan Mahaffey has made his last nine field goal attempts and is shooting over 80 percent over the last eight games.
- The Buckeyes have shot 50 percent or better eight times this season after reaching the mark just eight times all of last season. Four of the eight last year came after head coach Jake Diebler became interim head coach.
- Indiana State also enters Sunday’s game with an 8-4 record and will be wrapping up its non-conference slate. The Sycamores are 5th in the country in effective field goal percentage and 12th in overall field goal percentage at 50.5 percent. They are also in the Top 20 nationally at 30 three-point attempts per game and 12th nationally at 11.0 three-point makes per game.
