COLUMBUS, Ohio – Tuesday night should be a fun night inside Value City Arena with some interesting story lines as Ohio State hosts Valparaiso. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and the game will be streamed on Peacock. Jac Collinsworth and Stephen Bardo will call the action.

The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.

  • This will be the fourth meeting all-time between Ohio State and Valpo. Ohio State is officially 2-0 with wins at home in 2006 and 2011 but the loss in 2000 at the Great Alaskan Shootout was vacated by the NCAA (thanks, I guess).
  • Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler was a four-year letterwinner at Valparaiso from 2006-09. He earned both his undergrad and master’s degrees from Valpo and was also on the coaching staff for four seasons after his time as a player.
  • Diebler and the Beacons played at Value City Arena in 2006. That was the collegiate debut of Ohio State legend Greg Oden, who notched a double-double and also had five blocks in his first game. Diebler’s line wasn’t quite as good in the 78-58 Ohio State victory.
  • Diebler and Valpo head coach Roger Powell Jr. have a connection as well, as they were assistant coaches on Bryce Drew’s staffs for a combined five seasons at both Valpo and Vanderbilt.
  • Ohio State is coming off a game in which it did not score as many points as No. 2 Auburn on Saturday in Atlanta. If you’re looking to find out what happened in that game, Google Johni Broome.
  • For what is good at the moment for the Buckeyes, sophomore Devin Royal is averaging nearly 10 points and five rebounds better than he did as a freshman last season. The Pickerington, Ohio native is second on the team in scoring at 14.1 ppg and leads the team at 7.2 rpg.
  • John Mobley Jr. is also shooting it well. He’s made a three-pointer in every game and multiple threes in eight of the 10 games. He is still second in the country in three-point percentage at 54.0 percent.
  • Sean Stewart is coming off a solid game vs. Auburn in which he scored eight points, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and notched season-highs of three steals and two blocks.
  • Valpo enters the game at 5-4 overall following a 93-77 win over Central Michigan on Saturday. The Beacons have five players averaging between 9.6 and 12.9 ppg.
