Scarlet Knights Men’s Basketball Announces Michigan State Game at Madison Square Garden in January

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men’s basketball is heading to The Big Apple.

The Scarlet Knights will face Michigan State on Saturday, January 25, at Madison Square Garden. The game will air nationally on CBS at 1:30 p.m. in New York City.

“We are thrilled to play the Michigan State game at The World’s Most Famous Arena,” Rutgers men’s basketball’s head coach Steve Pikiell said. “Some of the greatest moments in basketball have taken place there, and it is something our players and staff were excited about exploring. We are thankful with help from the Big Ten, Madison Square Garden, and our athletic administration we were able to make this opportunity happen.”

Rutgers men’s basketball season ticket holders and corporate partners will have exclusive access to a presale beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 3 to Monday, Dec. 9 at 11:59 pm. On Tuesday, Dec. 10, tickets will go live through a Ticketmaster MSG presale. On Wednesday, Dec. 11 tickets will be available on Ticketmaster for the public.

Students will have access to select tickets through the Rutgers Athletics Ticket Office beginning on Monday, Dec. 9. Rutgers men’s basketball letter-winners and a guest will be invited to participate in an exclusive pregame event at MSG. Registration for the event will include a ticket to the game.

Additionally, Rutgers Athletics, the R Fund, and the Rutgers University Foundation will host a premiere Off The Banks pregame event. More information and registration details will be available. The exclusive pregame pep rally will feature the Rutgers Pep Band and Spirit Squad.

The last Rutgers game at Madison Square Garden was a 61-55 victory over Michigan State on February 4, 2023. That game was a Big Ten Conference event. This year’s will feature Rutgers branding, logos, and in-game production throughout The World’s Most Famous Arena with the Scarlet Knights serving as the host team. The Scarlet Knights own an overall record of 54-59 at MSG and 3-3 under head coach Steve Pikiell. Rutgers played in three previous Big Ten Super Saturday events (defeated Michigan State, losses to Wisconsin and Michigan) and three games at the 2018 Big Ten Tournament (2-1 record). Rutgers has five wins in its past eight games at Madison Square Garden.
