Offensive Coordinator Chad Scott To Coach Mountaineers in Bowl Game

By Missy Grimes

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker has announced that offensive coordinator Chad Scott will serve as the interim head coach for the Mountaineers in their upcoming bowl game.

“I want to thank Coach Scott for agreeing to lead our team in bowl preparation. He has been a strong and great leader for our program, and someone who cares for our student-athletes,” Baker said. “I appreciate his willingness to step forward to make for as smooth of a transition as possible. I have confidence that Coach Scott will have our team prepared and ready to play.”

A 2024 Broyles Award nominee as the nation’s top assistant coach, Scott has served as the offensive coordinator for two years and overseen the running backs for six years. He was the co-offensive coordinator from 2019-21 and the run game coordinator in 2022. The Mountaineers led Power Five in rushing in 2023 and currently are ranked No. 9 among Power Four.

Scott joined the Mountaineers football staff as the running backs coach in 2019 after serving as the tight ends/hybrids coach at North Carolina (2016-18). Prior to that, he served as the run game coordinator/running backs coach at Kentucky (2013-15) and the running backs coach at Texas Tech (2010-12) and Troy (2007-09).
