A record of 169-88 in 20 years at my alma mater. A bowl record of 12-6. But the 2024 season with a 9-game losing streak to end the season has Oklahoma State fans all on the back of former QB star Mike Gundy. The coach is probably thinking one bad season and its a big deal.

Oklahoma State went 3-9 in 2024. It was the worst season of Gundy’s 20-year tenure.

Oklahoma State recently fired both its offensive and defensive coordinators after the season ended.

The Cowboys had gone to 18 straight bowl games under Gundy in a streak that dated back to his second season. The three wins the school posted were the fewest since  3-8 in 2000.

According to ESPN and several media reports, the school’s board of regents met Friday morning and is reportedly in a “standoff” with the 57-year old Oklahoma native, who had been a fan favorite.

Oklahoma State Trustees are set to offer a restructured contract for Gundy. If the outspoken Gundy refuses, reports say that he can be fired by the Trustees for just cause and they won’t owe him any money.

Gundy is the 17th-highest paid coach in college football per media reports, on an annual basis with a total compensation of over $7.7 million. His buyout is just over $25.3 million.

In October 2020, Gundy signed a new “perpetual” or rolling 5-year contract.
