COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State opens a stretch of games on Friday where it will play five high major teams in the next seven games to close the calendar year. The first opponent is Pitt from the ACC. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed exclusively on Peacock. Steve Schlanger and Jess Settles will call the action.

The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.

  • The game will be a Hoops4ALS game. Hoops4ALS is an organization that unites basketball coaches, players and fans to raise awareness for ALS and promote research. Andy Murphy, who served as a video coordinator at Ohio State in the early 2000s, was a founding member of the organization and passed away from ALS in 2023.
  • This will be the 26th meeting all-time between the two teams but just the third since 1962. Ohio State officially leads the series 15-10. The most recent meetings were a home-and-home series in 2001 and 2002 and Pitt won both of those games.
  • Ohio State is 81-64 all-time vs. current members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Pitt is the Buckeyes’ most common opponent among the ACC schools.
  • The Buckeyes are in the midst of a four-game home stand and have rolled to large victories in the first three games. The most recent was a 102-69 victory over Green Bay on Monday night. Bruce Thornton led seven Buckeyes in double figures with 25 points and nine assists.
  • Coupled with the 104-60 win over Campbell last Friday, the Buckeyes have scored over 100 points in back-to-back games for the first time since going over 100 in four consecutive games to open the 1990-91 season.
  • Ohio State is second in the country in field goal defense, limiting opponents to just 34.0 percent shooting.
  • On the other end of the floor, the Buckeyes are 7th in the country in effective field goal percentage and 6th in three-point percentage at 43.4.
  • The Buckeyes have made 10 or more three-pointers in four of the first six games. Last year, the team made double-figure threes just eight times all season.
  • John Mobley Jr. is tied for the most three-pointers made by a freshman this season with 19 and his 59.4 three-point percentage is the best for any freshman averaging multiple makes per game.
  • Thornton has 27 assists and just two turnovers over the last four games. He is coming off a season-high 25 points vs. Green Bay where he tied a career-high with five three-pointers.
  • Devin Royal has a pair of double-doubles this season and is shooting 79.2 percent (19-of-24) from the floor over the last three games.
