COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State returns home to start a stretch of four consecutive games at Value City Arena to close out the month. The first of those games is against Evansville on Tuesday night. The game will tipoff at 7 p.m. and will be streamed exclusively on B1G+. Tyler Danburg, Connor Schuh and Jayla VanHorn will call the action.

The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.

  • This will be the fifth meeting between the two programs, but the first since 1976.
  • The Buckeyes have won first four meetings, winning at home in 1935, 1960 and 1975. They then went on the road and beat the Purple Aces 74-62 on Dec. 1, 1976.
  • The Buckeyes are 10-1 all-time against teams currently in the Missouri Valley Conference. They are also scheduled to play Valparaiso and Indiana State in December.
  • The Buckeyes suffered their first loss of the season last Friday night in a 78-64 setback at No. 23 Texas A&M. Bruce Thornton led the way with 15 points, four assists, two steals and zero turnovers.
  • The game was choppy at A&M as a total of 45 fouls were called and 62 free throws were attempted by the two teams. The difference in the game was Texas A&M going 32-of-40 from the line compared to the Buckeyes 16-of-22. The last time an Ohio State opponent attempted 40 or more free throws was on Jan. 24, 2004 when Iowa put up 45 attempts.
  • The Buckeyes are averaging more than 10 three-pointers per game through the first three games and are shooting better than 40 percent from distance.
  • Freshman John Mobley Jr. is 10-of-15 from long range on the young season and is third in the country among freshmen at 3.3 three-pointers per game. He is tied with Duane Washington Jr. for the most threes by a Buckeye freshman through the first three games of their career.
  • Junior point guard Bruce Thornton is leading the way through the first three games with some solid numbers — 15.7 points per game while shooting over 68 percent from the floor, 55 percent from long range and 12-of-14 from the free throw line. He’s also averaging 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.
  • Thornton is closing in on 1,000 career points. He has 968 points in his 73 career games.
  • Fifth-year guard Meechie Johnson Jr. just reached the 1,000-point mark with a three-pointer in the first half against Texas A&M. Johnson has 159 points in 46 career games as a Buckeye.
  • Evansville has opened the year at 1-3 overall with its lone win coming over Brescia on Nov. 9. Ohio State is the lone Power 5 conference opponent on Evansville’s schedule this season. More than half of the Purple Aces’ shot attempts this season have come from beyond the arc with Gabriel Pozzato and Cameron Haffner leading the way with 11 made three-pointers.
