The matchup marks the return of the Skip Prosser Classic

 

CINCINNATI — The Xavier University Musketeers, 3-0, host the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons, 4-0, in the return of the Skip Prosser Classic on Saturday at noon at Cintas Center. The two teams have not met since the 2019-20 season.

Wake is third among “others receiving votes” in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll and Xavier is fourth.

• Xavier is playing the fourth of five-straight home games to open the 2024-25 regular season.
• Xavier and Wake are playing for the eighth time as part of the Skip Prosser Classic series, although they are playing for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
• Xavier placed six players in double figures in scoring in the 94-57 win over Jackson State on Tuesday. XU hit 16-31 from 3-point range, which is tied for the second-most 3-pointers in XU history and the most since hitting a school record 19 in a win over Oklahoma (12-9-20).

• Xavier graduate student Dayvion McKnight, a preseason Second Team All-BIG EAST selection, has averaged 13.7 ppg. and a team-high 5.3 apg. McKnight, who earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll this past week, is second in the BIG EAST with an 8.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Xavier graduate student Zach Freemantle, a preseason Second Team All-BIG EAST selection, leads Xavier in scoring (fifth in BIG EAST at 19.0 ppg.) and rebounding (tied for seventh in BIG EAST at 7.0 rpg.).
• Xavier junior newcomer Ryan Conwell, a preseason Third Team All-BIG EAST selection, is second on the team in scoring at 18.0 ppg. (tied for sixth in the BIG EAST), while leading the BIG EAST at 4.0 3-point field goals made per game.
• Xavier has five transfer newcomers on the active roster that are all expected to play key roles: Ryan ConwellCam FletcherMarcus FosterJohn Hugley IV and Dante Maddox Jr.
• Xavier sophomore Dailyn Swain has started the first three games and contributed 10.0 ppg. and 6.7 rpg., including his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds vs.
Jackson State on Tuesday. The other four starters include a junior and three graduate students.
• Xavier had six freshmen and only one returning letterwinner on the active roster for the 2023-24 season. This season XU has zero scholarship freshmen.
• Xavier head coach Sean Miller is in his 20th season as a college head coach, including his eighth at Xavier. He was XU head coach for five seasons from 2004-09 and is in his third season in a second stint.
