GAMBIER, Ohio – The Capital University men’s basketball team traveled to Kenyon College on Wednesday night where they defeated the Owls 73-58 to secure the 450th win in the head coaching career of Damon Goodwin. Goodwin, who is in his 30th season on the Capital sidelines, is now 16th among active Division III head coaches in victories, trailing Ken Scalmanini at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in 15th by two wins.

With the win, Capital improves to 2-0 on the year, while Kenyon drops to 0-2 to start their season.

The Comets faced a back-and-forth battle early on, as they trailed the Owls by four points for much of the first half. With the close game, Cap finally broke through in the final minute of the half as Se’Ron Calloway-White hit a jumper to slash the deficit to one point before Eljae Deas converted an and-one to put Cap ahead 36-34 at the break.

Out of the locker room, the score knotted up at 40-40 at the 16:37 mark of the second half. From there, Capital went on an 8-2 run to create some separation. That lead for Cap would hold steady until they would eventually pull away in the final two minutes thanks to patience and calmness at the free throw line.
