Wright State Raiders Second half push not enough at Toledo in Wednesday night defeat, 86-77

TOLEDO – The Wright State men’s basketball team used a 16-8 run to open the second half and had a two-possession game with 75 seconds remaining, but the Raiders fell 86-77 to Toledo on Wednesday night.

Wright State (2-2) now returns home for a Saturday night contest inside the Nutter Center against Central State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Down eight at the half, the Raiders came out and hit six of their first eight second half shots to pull to even at 49-all with just over 14 minutes to play. From there, Wright State and Toledo (2-1) went back-and-forth the remainder of the night, with the Raiders down five at 82-77 with 1:15 to go after a quick 6-2 run. From there, Wright State missed the front end of a pair of one-and-ones at the free throw line, while Toledo connected on a basket and a pair of free throws in the final 75 seconds to seal the win.

Brandon Noel led the Raiders with a game-high 24 points and a rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. Alex Huibregtse was in double figures as well, notching 16 points – 11 in the second half – and adding six rebounds of his own. Jack Doumbia filled his stat line off the bench, finishing with nine points, five steals, four rebounds, two steals and a block, while three Raiders – Michael ImariagbeKeaton Norris and Logan Woods – each chipped in eight points.

Wright State finished the night shooting 49 percent overall (33-67) and connected on four three-pointers (4-16, 25 percent). Toledo shot 56 percent from the floor (32-57) and were 46 percent (6-13) from deep. The hosts were 16-of-23 (70 percent) from the free throw line, while the Raiders went to the stripe just 11 total times (7-11, 64 percent).

Sonny Wilson finished with 20 points for Toledo as five players finished in double figures and accounted for 75 of 86 points for the hosts.
