HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Football has signed a two-game agreement to meet Mid-American Conference member Eastern Michigan in 2026 and 2028.
The first game will be played Sept. 26, 2026 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington while the second game of the series takes place Sept. 23, 2028 at Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
“We are excited to bring another exciting opponent into Joan C. Edwards Stadium in 2026 and we are excited to bring our fans to the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area for our game against Eastern Michigan,” said Christian Spears, Marshall’s Director of Athletics. “EMU is a quality Mid-American Conference opponent that is located in a place our fans will enjoy traveling to!”
Marshall leads the all-time series with Eastern Michigan by a 3-1 margin with the Herd having won the last three games in the series.
The last game in the series came in 1998 when the Thundering Herd went into Ypsilanti, Mich., as a heavy favorite, but had to escape with an exciting 26-23 win following a Billy Malashevich field goal after the Eagles rallied back from a 23-7 deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter.
In 1997, Marshall earned a 48-25 win over Eastern Michigan at Joan C. Edwards Stadium – a win that jumpstarted a five-game winning streak that led to the Herd winning the 1997 MAC Championship and earning a bowl berth in the 1997 Motor City Bowl.
Prior to those two meetings in the MAC, Marshall and Eastern Michigan met twice – the first a 7-3 win for the Eagles in Ypsilanti in 1983 and the second a 24-17 win at Fairfield Stadium in 1984.
