ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio football team (1-1) returns to Athens to take on the Morgan State Bears (1-1) on Sept. 14. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium and can be seen on ESPN+ with Michael Reghi and Marcus Ray on the call.

The Bobcats’ matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield, presented by Holzer Health System. Veteran Ohio radio personality Marty Bannister is stepping into the 2024 play-by-play role and will be joined by Rob Cornelius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for two decades. 

SERIES HISTORY VS. MORGAN STATE
This marks the first time the Bobcats will face off against the Bears

SCOUTING MORGAN STATE
The Bears are currently 1-1 on the season, defeating Hampton University by a narrow margin of 30-28 and falling in week two to Townson, 14-9. As a team, Morgan State averages 19.50 points per game on 165 rushing yards and 119 passing yards.

Sophomore quarterback Tahj Smith is 18-for-28 on 238 yards over two games, throwing one passing touchdown. His longest pass clocks in at an impressive 74 yards. Smith isn’t afraid to use his legs, recording 23 carries on 66 rushing yards as well.

Redshirt freshman running back Jason Collins Jr. leads the Bears on the ground with 89 yards on 13 attempts and one touchdown, while senior running back Miles Miree scored two touchdowns in the season opener against Hampton and is just behind Collins Jr. with 81 rushing yards.

Junior wide receiver Jospeh Kennerly has the Bears’ only receiving touchdown of the season— the 74-yard snag also marks his only reception of the season. Senior wide receiver Andre Crawley recorded six receptions on 52 yards while graduate student running back J.J. Davis has accumulated 41 yards on 4 catches.

Junior linebacker Arturo Mattocks leads the defense with 15 total tackles, including six solo stops, one fumble recovery and the teams’ only quarterback hurry so far this season. Senior defensive lineman Elijah Williams has seven solo stops, 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. Senior defensive back Carlvainsky Decius and redshirt junior defensive back Jardon Carter each snagged an interception.
