DAYTON — The University of Dayton football team is on the road for the first time in 2024 this week, traveling to Terrre Haute, Ind. to visit Indiana State on Saturday, Sept. 14.  Game time is 7 p.m. ET.

UD opened the year with an intense 18-10 win at home over Saint Francis on Aug. 31.  SFU went on to  beat Kent State 23-17 in week two.  Dayton forced a fumble to set up a short TD drive and then came up with a safety to take a 9-0 first-quarter lead.

Gideon ESPN Lampron made both of those plays, en route to being named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.  The Flyer linebacker had 11 tackles (six solo), three TFL, two fumbles forced and one recovered with, a sack.

UD punter Logan Forcum’s 75-yard punt in the first quarter against Saint Francis is now the second-longest punt in college football this year.  Forcum averaged 49.6 yards per punt on five boots, which leads the Pioneer Football League and second in FCS football.

Sophomore Gavin Lochow caught a TD pass and threw for another in the SFU win.  On the day, Lochow caught eight passes for 55 yards (26 yards-after-catch), and also averaged 23.0 yards on three kickoff returns.

Indiana State is 0-2 on the season, with road losses at Purdue (45-0) and EIU (27-20).

Linebacker Garrett Ollendieck and defensive back Maddix Blackwell were named Preseason First Team All-MVFC.  Ollendieck leads the MVFC and is fourth in FCS football in solo tackles (7.5 per game).

The series began in 1975.  Dayton won its two games in 1976 and 2019. The last meeting was at ISU on Sept. 7, 2019, with Dayton winning 42-35.

UD closes out the non-conference season next week at home against Ave Maria.  Game time is 12 noon ET.  It is the University’s Family Weekend.  The game has been declared a “White-Out” and fans are asked to wear white to the game.
