Ohio State will face UNLV in event final Sunday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (2-0-1) scored twice in the first half and added a pair of insurance goals in the second to down visiting SIUE (0-1-1) 4-0 Thursday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in the 2024 Wolstein Classic.
How It Happened
Senior Deylen Vellios found the back of the net in the 11’ to give the Buckeyes the early 1-0 lead. Marko Borkovic sent a pass toward the center of the box that was defected wide left were Vellios gathered and found the bottom right of the net for his second career goal and first of the 2024 season.
Michael Adedokun made it 2-0 Buckeyes when he scored on a rebound from a header by Borkovic that was saved but left out to the left where Adedokun found the back right of the net. The score was the fourth of his Ohio State career and eighth overall. He scored four goals at Dayton from 2021-23.
Freshman David Ajagbe scored his third goal of the season in the 67’ when Vellios got free down the left side and found Ajagbe wide open on the right side. He has scored a goal in each game of his Ohio State career to date.
Marko Borkovic scored the final goal of the match in the 71’ after an initial SIUE stop squirted free to the left where Borkovic put it away for his sixth career goal.
McLaughlin made his second-consecutive start in goal for the Buckeyes and recorded the second shutout of his career. He helped the Buckeyes to a 2-0 win at Akron last Sunday. He faced six shots and made one save vs. the Cougars.
Making their first appearances as Buckeyes were Zsombar Onodi, Johnny Rush, Jacob Maisonneuve and keeper RJ Stoller.
In the 2024 Wolstein Classic opener between Dayton and UNLV, the Flyers earned a 3-1 victory over the Runnin’ Rebels.
Ohio State is 18-8-8 in the Wolstein Classic, which has been contested 18 times since 2006.
