Linebacker Began Strong Game By Setting Up Dayton’s First Nine Points In Saturday’s Win
ST. LOUIS – University of Dayton linebacker Gideon Lampron was named the Pioneer Football League’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in UD’s 18-10 win over Saint Francis on Saturday.
Lampron, whose middle name is indeed ESPN, led an opportunistic Dayton defense with 11 tackles (six solo), forced two fumbles, recovered one and made the tackle on a safety that gave the Flyers a 9-0 lead in the first quarter.
The redshirt sophomore from LaGrange, Ohio set up Dayton’s first touchdown by forcing and recovering a fumble at the Saint Francis 28-yard line. He had three tackles for a loss and a sack in the win.
He shared the weekly award with San Diego defensive back Matt Ballentine.
Dayton has a bye week before traveling to Indiana State of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. That game will be on Saturday, Sept. 14. Kickoff is 6 p.m. ET.
