CLEVELAND, Ohio –The Mid-American Conference unveiled its television selections and game times for the opening three weeks of the 2024 football season on Thursday, May 30.
The University of Akron football team, under the leadership of third-year head coach Joe Moorhead, will kick off its 2024 campaign traveling to Columbus, Ohio for the season opener to battle Ohio State on Aug. 31 at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
In week two, the Zips travel to Piscataway, N.J. to play the Rutgers at Noon on Sept. 7 with Big Ten Network calling the action.
The home opener for the Blue and Gold is scheduled for week three at InfoCision Stadium as the Zips host Colgate on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
Game times for the Zips’ midweek #MACtion contests where also announced as Akron will have back-to-back road tilts at Northern Illinois on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. with viewing plat form to be announced on ESPN2, ESPNU or CBS Sports Network.
The Wagon Wheel game follows at rival Kent State Tuesday, Nov. 19 the Zips are scheduled to defend their 2023 Wagon Wheel triumph against the Golden Flashes at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio at 7, 7:30, or 8 p.m. on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or CBS Sports Network).
The final game time announcement is for the regular season finale at InfoCision Stadium against Toledo on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. on ESPN2 or ESPN+.
All remaining game times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game. Games will air on ESPN platforms (ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU/ESPN+/ESPN3) and CBS Sports Network. Game dates and times are subject to change.
The new MAC scheduling model eliminates the MAC East and West Divisions. The top-two teams based on conference winning percentage will compete in the MAC Football Championship Game at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
This new model will allow for each team to face all 11 conference opponents home and away at least once during a three-year cycle. Additionally, the new format will incorporate protected opponents based on geographic location and rivalries. The full 2024 football schedule will be released at the end of February.
