The D-backs highly-regarded business culture has been recognized for the ninth time among Arizona’s Most Admired Companies (MAC) by Az Business Magazine and BestCompaniesAZ. The team was previously honored in 2011, ’13-16, ’18-19 and ’22. Celebrating the outstanding contributions of Arizona’s leading employers, this prestigious award honors companies that excel in business and make a meaningful impact on our state based on the Five Pillars of MAC: Leadership Excellence, Workplace Culture, Corporate and Social Responsibility, Customer Opinion and Innovation.
“I am grateful the business community recognizes our organization’s efforts and contributions to consistenly place us among Arizona’s Most Admired Companies,” said Derrick Hall, D-backs President, CEO & General Partner. “We invest a lot of time and energy into our workplace, our people and our culture and remain adaptable and innovative in an ever-changing landscape. To receive this presitigious honor for the ninth time affirms our dedication to the pursuit of excellence.”
The D-backs have consistently been recognized by Az Business Magazine and BestCompaniesAZ. In 2019, the team received the Spotlight Award for exceptional achievement in each of the five pillars of the Most Admired Companies (MAC) program. In 2017, the D-backs were named among the Top 100 Companies by BestCompaniesAZ, the 15th anniversary of the award. In 2013, the D-backs earned the Workplace Culture Award as the top company that excels in workplace culture. In 2011, the D-backs were given the Leadership Spotlight Award.
Consistently recognized as a best place to work, other similar awards bestowed upon the organization include Forbes, in 2017, naming the D-backs as one of the best sports franchises to work for across the country, a spot among Phoenix Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” since 2007 and Ranking Arizona Top 3 in “Best Places to Work” from 2015-17.
D-backs employees operate under core values established by the leadership team that provide true framework for effective decision-making. Those values include investing into the people who work for the organization, cultivating and enhancing relationships with employees, establishing integrity by accepting individual and collective responsibility, foster learning throughout the organization while considering outside points of view, and expecting positive results from the organization both on and off the field. Culture is also one of the five areas of focus within the organization’s Circle of Success.
The team’s Leadership Academy program, now in its sixth year since launching in 2018, provides selected Team Players growth and development opportunities, the time and internal & external resources to continue their leadership development and collaboration skills specifically around: leading self/individuals/teams, connection, reflection, inspiration, strategy, tactics, assessments, skill building, and D-backs Business & Baseball Operations.
The team supports Team Players through D-backs for Change and Team Player Resource Groups. D-backs for Change is a business and community initiative that seeks to level the playing field for our Team Players and community members by: (i) making an unequivocal commitment to improving organizational diversity, equity, and inclusion, and putting a robust plan in place and taking the necessary steps to do so; and (ii) seeking to improve the lives of those who have been and continue to be disadvantaged as a result of systemic social injustice, such as racism, sexism, homophobia and discrimination of all kinds. The D-backs for Change Council is comprised of well-respected Team Players who reflect a balanced representation of the business, as well as those who represent a broad range of internal affinity groups, and provide insight and information that is reflected in the organization and beyond, and work side-by-side with the organization’s leadership to ensure alignment of the organization’s business, cultural, community and diversity and inclusion strategies.
Team Players receive an array of unique perks and benefits, like a bi-yearly roadtrip to watch the team play in San Diego, with the team providing transportation, hotel and game tickets, an extended two-week holiday break, quarterly company outings, roundtable meetings between management and employees, and a rotating council comprised of members from all levels of the organization focusing on enhancing company events and culture.
