For the second year in a row, the MLS All-Stars were blown out as the Liga MX All-Stars won 4-1 at Lower.com Field in Downtown Columbus in front of a record crowd of over 21,000. It is the most attended match in Lower.com Field’s three-year history.

This was the third MLS All-Star Game in Columbus. The other two were played at Historic Crew Stadium.

The best of the Mexican first division were able to go into halftime up 2-1 despite hometown favorite Cucho Hernandez’s 17th minute goal.

Hernandez tied the game for the MLS All-Stars in front of his hometown fans with the assist from fellow Columbus Crew teammate Diego Rossi. That was the first time in three years an MLS player scored in their home stadium in an All-Star game.

The defeat is MLS’ first to the Liga MX All-Stars but its second straight in the All-Star Game. With last year’s 5-0 defeat to Arsenal in Washington D.C., MLS has conceded nine goals in the last two All-Star games. Next year’s game will be played at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas home of Austin FC which owned by former Crew investor Anthony Precourt.
