Hey now, you’re an All-Star!

*Rounding out the Padres’ presence in Arlington, alongside Jurickson Profar (LF) and
Fernando Tatis Jr. (RF), will be Luis Arraez (INF), Jackson Merrill (CF)
and Robert Suarez (RHP), for a total of 5 All-Stars for the 1st time since
2021 (Fernando Tatis Jr., Jake Cronenworth, Yu Darvish, Mark Melancon,
and Manny Machado).

• The 5 All-Stars are tied for the 2nd most in team history with the 5 in 2021,
1992 (Tony Fernandez, Tony Gwynn, Fred McGriff, Benito Santiago, and
Gary Sheffield), and 1998 (Andy Ashby, Kevin Brown, Tony Gwynn, Trevor
Hoffman, and Greg Vaughn)…they trail just the 7 in 1985 for the most in SD
history (Steve Garvey, Goose Gossage, Tony Gwynn, LaMarr Hoyt, Terry
Kennedy, Graig Nettles, and Garry Templeton).

• With Profar, Tatis and Merrill, it’ll be the 1st time the Padres have ever had
3 outfielders selected to an ASG.

• Merrill will be the 1st Padres rookie to ever be named an All-Star and the
youngest Padre ever (youngest prior were Roberto Alomar in 1990 at 22-
155), per Elias…he’s the youngest player to be named to the All-Star team
in this Midsummer Classic. Merrill will be 21 years and 88 days old on July
16, and the last time a player as young or younger played in the All-Star
Game was in 2013: Bryce Harper (20-273), Manny Machado (21-010), and
Jose Fernandez (20-350).

• On July 3rd, MLB announced Profar and Tatis Jr. will both start the NL AllStar game in Arlington, Texas…they become the 1st OFs in SD history to win a fan election since Tony Gwynn in 1999, and the duo are the 1st
pair of San Diego OFs to earn starts together
