Philadelphia Phillies set a franchise record with 8 All-Star selections

By Dan Hock

YEEEEE-HAW: The Phillies have set a franchise record and tied a Major League record (since
1961/Expansion Era) with eight All-Star selections (Alec Bohm, Bryce Harper, Jeff Hoffman,
Cristopher Sánchez, Matt Strahm, Ranger Suárez, Trea Turner & Zack Wheeler) … The other clubs with
8 ASG selections: 2023 Atlanta Braves, 2012 Texas Rangers, 2010 New York Yankees, 2008 Chicago Cubs, 2004
New York Yankees, 2001 Seattle Mariners and 1961 New York Yankees … Philadelphia’s eight All-Stars eclipses
the previous franchise record of five All-Stars, accomplished six times and last in 2011 (Halladay, Lee, Hamels,
Polanco, Victorino) … Philadelphia has set an MLB record with five pitchers selected for the ASG – the
previous mark was four, accomplished several times, last by the 2021 Brewers … Additionally,
Philadelphia’s five first-timers (Bohm, Hoffman, Sánchez, Strahm, Suárez) ties an MLB record,
accomplished by four other clubs since 1961: 2022 Braves, 2015 Royals, 2014 Athletics and 2001 Mariners
… Harper was selected for the 8th time (2012-13; 2015-18; 2022; 2024), Turner for the 3rd time (2021-22; 2024)
and Wheeler the 2nd time (2021; 2024) … Three Phillies will start the game as Harper (NL leading vote getter),
Bohm and Turner were all selected through fan voting – it marks the first time the Phillies have had three elected
starters since 1982 when 1B Pete Rose, 2B Manny Trillo and 3B Mike Schmidt started the Midsummer Classic (the
club had three starters in 2009, but OF Shane Victorino started in place of an injured elected starter).
