Angels left-hander earns second career All-Star selection
ANAHEIM – Major League Baseball announced today that LHP Tyler Anderson has been selected to the 2024 American League All-Star team. This marks his second career All-Star selection and he becomes the first Angels left-handed pitcher to be named an All-Star since Hector Santiago in 2015.
Anderson, 34, has made 18 starts this season for the Angels, going 8-8 with a 2.81 ERA (112 IP – 35 ER) and 77 strikeouts. He enters play today ranked fourth in the American League in innings pitched, is fifth with a .209 (85/406) batting average against and is sixth in ERA. Additionally, he ranks second among all MLB pitchers with a 4.1 bWAR.
The Las Vegas native has registered 10 quality starts in 2024 and has allowed one-or-fewer runs in nine of his 18 starts. He posted his finest start of the season yesterday afternoon after working 8.0 scoreless innings at Chicago (N.L.), allowing just three hits with no walks and a career-high-tying 10 strikeouts. He is currently on pace to become the first Angels left-hander to register 8+ wins with an ERA under 3.00 before the All-Star Break since C.J. Wilson in 2012.
Anderson previously earned All-Star honors in 2022 as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but did not appear in the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium.
The 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star Game is scheduled to be played Tuesday, July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX.
