Next Umpire Camp Set for June 29th in Kansas City, Missouri; Two Additional Camps Scheduled for 2024
Major League Baseball announced today that it will host its third Umpire Camp of 2024, set to take place at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy on Saturday, June 29th. The one-day camp is free to attend for anyone interested in pursuing a career as a professional umpire, improving their current umpiring skills, or learning more about the umpiring profession.
Participants will work with MLB’s Umpiring Department Staff, which consists of former MLB Umpires and current MLB Supervisors, to hone the skills necessary to umpire at all levels. At the conclusion of the one-day camp, individuals may be offered an opportunity to attend the MLB Umpire Prospect Development Camp at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida. This four-week course, which is invitation-only and all-expenses paid, convenes in January and provides invitees a unique chance to compete for a position as an umpire in professional baseball.
Kansas City follows the first two successful Umpire Camps, which were held on April 20th in Vero Beach and on May 18th in Las Vegas. MLBUC will also make upcoming stops at Truist Park, the home of the Atlanta Braves, on July 27th; and CHS Field, the home of the Triple-A St. Paul Saints in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 24th. Those harboring aspirations of pursuing a career in professional umpiring or looking to hone their amateur officiating skills are encouraged to visit and explore MLBUC.com, where they can register for the June 29th camp in Kansas City or any of the other upcoming camps in 2024.
MLB Umpire Camps date back to 2006, when they began at the MLB Youth Academy in Compton, California. Current Major League Umpires Adam Beck, Nestor Ceja, Ramon De Jesus, Malachi Moore, Edwin Moscoso and Carlos Torres all attended MLB Umpire Camps prior to reaching the Major Leagues. In addition to producing numerous Major League Umpires, the free one-day Umpire Camps held across the country now serve as the main gateway into professional baseball.
