Club options infielder/outfielder Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA — The Boston Red Sox today reinstated outfielder Wilyer Abreu from the 10-Day Injured List. To make room for Abreu on the active roster, the club optioned infielder/outfielder Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester.
Abreu, 24, was placed on the Injured List on June 4, retroactive to June 3, with a right ankle sprain. The left-handed hitter played in three rehab games with Worcester from June 18-20, going 3-for-12 with two home runs, two RBI, and a walk. He has played in 53 games this season, batting .272 (46-for-169) with 14 doubles, two triples, six home runs, and 22 RBI while making 40 starts in right field. Originally signed as an international free agent by the Houston Astros in 2017, the Venezuela native has batted .286 (70-for-245) with an .840 OPS in 81 career games with the Red Sox (2023-24).
Dalbec, 28, has played in 37 Major League games this season, making 14 starts at first base, seven at third base, two in right field, and one as the designated hitter while batting .133 (11-for-83). The right-handed hitter has also played in 26 games for Worcester this season, batting .245 (25-for-102) with an .859 OPS, 19 runs scored, five doubles, eight home runs, and 25 RBI.
