LA Dodgers place Mookie Betts on injured list

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled outfielder Miguel Vargas and placed infielder Mookie Betts on the injured list with a left-hand fracture.

Vargas, 25, returns for his second stint with Dodgers after hitting .250 with three doubles, one homer and four RBI in eight games. He has been with the Dodgers parts of three seasons, hitting .195 with nine homers and 44 RBI in 107 games. Prior to his latest recall, he played in 41 games with Triple-A, hitting .290 with eight homers and 38 RBI. He was signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent on September 7, 2017.

Betts, 31, heads to the injured list for the first time this season after being struck by a pitch in the seventh inning of yesterday’s game. He had appeared in 72 games, batting .304 with 10 homers and 40 RBI. The 2018 American League MVP has been with the Dodgers five seasons, slashing .285/.377/.532 with 123 homers and 433 runs scored in 433 games. In his Major League career the seven-time All-Star has amassed 262 homers and notched 796 RBI in 1,337 games. He was originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2011 First Year Player Draft out of Overton High School.
