Cleveland Guardians News: Johnny Goryl and Cy Buynak elected to 2024 Guardians Distinguished Hall of Fame

Guardians will play host to CC Sabathia Hall of Fame Event to benefit Cleveland Guardians Charities on Saturday August 3 in Discount Drug Mart Club

 

Cleveland, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced former coach and current Player Development Advisor Johnny Goryl and former equipment manager Cy Buynak will become the 13th and 14th members of the Guardians Distinguished Hall of Fame.

A baseball lifer, Goryl spent time as a player, manager, and coach in several organizations. He joined Cleveland in 1982 and has enjoyed a variety of roles in the organization. Buynak got his start in Cleveland in 1962 and his career in both the home clubhouse and visiting clubhouse ran through 2006, a remarkable 45 years.

“To be able to honor two baseball lifers, Johnny Goryl and Cy Buynak, into the Guardians Distinguished Hall of Fame is truly special,” said SVP of Public Affairs Bob DiBiasio. “Whether it was out on the field or in clubhouse, each gentleman in their own professional way impacted hundreds of players and staff throughout their careers.”

The Cleveland Guardians will host a Hall of Fame Event benefiting Cleveland Guardians Charities to honor CC Sabathia at the Discount Drug Mart Club at Progressive Field. The Guardians will honor Goryl and Buynak along with Sabathia on Saturday August 3, with a pregame ceremony. Additionally, 15,000 fans to enter Progressive Field will receive a CC Sabathia Bobblehead courtesy of Discount Drug Mart. The Guardians Hall of Fame, established in 1951 as the first team hall of fame in baseball, will celebrate its 19th induction class this season.
