Club Recalls Infielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed outfielder Tyler O’Neill on the 10-Day Injured List, retroactive to 5/26, with right knee inflammation. To fill his spot on the active roster, the club recalled infielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester.
O’Neill, 28, has batted .236 (35-for-148) with an .843 OPS and 11 home runs in 41 games this season while making 17 starts in left field, 14 in right field, and eight as the designated hitter. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Canada native has batted .247 (398-for-1,612) with 89 home runs and 234 RBI in 518 career games with the St. Louis Cardinals (2018-23) and Red Sox (2024).
Valdez, 25, has played in 28 Major League games this season, making 26 starts at second base and batting .156 (14-for-90) with two home runs. The left-handed hitter has also played in 20 games with Worcester, batting .230 (17-for-74) with an .887 OPS, six home runs, and 10 RBI. Originally signed by the Houston Astros as an international free agent in July 2015, the Dominican Republic native has batted .224 (51-for-229) with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 77 games with the Red Sox (2023-24).
