Cubs manager Craig Counsell’s debut to home state of Wisconsin and first series with former team Brewers ends in a loss

CENTRAL OF ATTENTION: The Chicago Cubs continue their six-game Central Divsion
roadtrip tonight in Milwaukee against the Brewers for the second game of the series
… a rainout in Friday’s scheduled game at St. Louis turned a seven-game trip into
a six-game trip, the make-up game is scheduled as part of a split doubleheader
on July 13 … Chicago dropped the first game of the series against the Brewers
yesterday, 5-1 … Justin Steele went 7.0 shutout innings allowing just three hits
while walking one batter and striking out eight … his eight punchouts marked a
season-high … Cody Bellinger finished the day 2-for-4 for his second multi-hit game
in three days.

 

CREAM CITY CUBS: The Cubs and Brewers this week meet for the second time this
season as part of a 13-game season series … The Cubs lead the season series, 2-1
… following this series, the teams will meet again in Milwaukee, June 28 – 30 and
close the series July 22 – 24 in Chicago … Chicago trails the all-time series 216-218
… the Cubs are 95-102 all-time at American Family Field … Since 2022, the series
is tied, 18-18.

CRAIG’S CUBS: Cubs manager Craig Counsell will manage his first series against
his former team at American Family Field this week … Counsell was named the 56th
manager of the Chicago Cubs on November 6, 2023 … he managed the Milwaukee
Brewers from 2015-23, going 707-625 (.531) in 1,332 regular season games.
© During his tenure in Milwaukee, Counsell’s 707 wins and 1,332 games managed
are both the most in Brewers franchise history.
© In parts of nine seasons with the Brewers, led the club to six winning seasons,
five postseason appearances (2018-21, 2023) and three N.L. Central titles.
