COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned forward Brendan Gaunce to the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate after clearing waivers, the club announced today.
Gaunce, 30, recorded two goals and two assists for four points with six penalty minutes in 24 games with the Blue Jackets in 2023-24 before suffering an upper body injury at Florida on April 11 and missing the final two contests of the NHL season. He has posted 13-15-28 with 67 penalty minutes and 219 shots on goal in 177 career appearances with the Blue Jackets, Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks since being selected by Vancouver in the first round, 26th overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft. A native of Sudbury, Ontario, he signed as a free agent with Columbus on July 30, 2021 and has collected 7-5-12, 20 PIM and 77 shots on goal in 59 outings over three seasons with the club.
The 6-3, 220-pound forward has added 108-125-233 with 220 penalty minutes and 891 shots on goal in 343 career appearances with the Monsters, Providence Bruins and Utica Comets over nine AHL seasons since making his pro debut in 2014-15. He has added 4-5-9 in 25 career AHL Calder Cup Playoffs outings. He ranked fourth on the Monsters in points with 19-20-39 in 46 games, while serving as team captain in 2023-24.
