The Washington Nationals returned from rehabilitation assignment and reinstated first baseman/designated hitter Joey Gallo from the 10-day Injured List and optioned infielder Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester on Friday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Gallo, 30, hit a double and four home runs in 10 rehab games between Single-A Fredericksburg and Triple-A Rochester. He recorded eight RBI and drew 11 walks in 44 plate appearances.
Gallo returns to the active roster after missing 17 games with a right AC joint sprain. He hit .122 with five doubles, three homers, five RBI, 15 walks and eight runs scored in 23 games for the Nationals prior to being placed on the Injured List on April 26.
Lipscomb, 23, hit .252 with a double, homer, nine RBI, 11 walks, 10 stolen bases and 16 runs scored in 33 games across two stints with Washington.
