Umpire Camp Set for May 18th in Las Vegas, Nevada; MLB Umpire Camps Hosting Complimentary Clinic for Service Members on May 17th at Nellis Air Force Base
May 13, 2024
Major League Baseball announced today that it will host its second Umpire Camp of 2024, set to take place at Las Vegas Ballpark, the home of the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators on Saturday, May 18th. The one-day camp is free to attend for anyone interested in pursuing a career as a Major League umpire.
Participants will work with MLB’s Umpiring Department Staff, which consists of former MLB Umpires and current MLB Supervisors, to hone the skills necessary to umpire successfully at all levels. At the conclusion of the one-day camp, individuals may be selected to attend the MLB Umpire Prospect Development Camp at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida. This invitation-only, all-expenses paid, four-week course convenes in January and provides the opportunity for invitees to compete for positions in professional baseball.
Las Vegas follows a successful first Umpire Camp, which was held on April 20th in Vero Beach. MLBUC will also make upcoming stops at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri on June 29th; Truist Park, the home of the Atlanta Braves in Atlanta, Georgia on July 27th; and CHS Field, the home of the Triple-A St. Paul Saints in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 24th. Those harboring aspirations of pursuing a career in professional umpiring are encouraged to visit and explore MLBUC.com, where they can register for the May 18th Las Vegas camp, or any of the other upcoming camps in 2024.
Prior to the Saturday event at Las Vegas Ballpark, MLB Umpire Camps will honor the service of military personnel by visiting Nellis Air Force Base on Friday, May 17th to provide a complimentary Umpire Camp for service members. This initiative underscores MLBUC’s commitment to fostering umpiring talent and recognizes the dedication and sacrifice of service members during National Military Appreciation Month.
MLB Umpire Camps date back to 2006, when they began at the MLB Youth Academy in Compton, California. Current Major League Umpires Adam Beck, Nestor Ceja, Ramon De Jesus, Malachi Moore, Edwin Moscoso and Carlos Torres all attended MLB Umpire Camps prior to reaching the Major Leagues. In addition to producing numerous Major League Umpires, the free one-day Umpire Camps held across the country now serve as the main gateway into professional baseball.
