COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Fury (8-16) fell 3-1(25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 29-31) against San Diego (13-11) in the final match of their inaugural season on Saturday night at Nationwide Arena.

Set One

The first set was highly contested, but ultimately the Fury took the set, 25-22, as Kaitlyn Hord earned her first kill of the match to seal the set win. Columbus hit at a 32% rate in the first set and managed to limit the Mojo to a 21% hitting percentage. Reagan Cooper and Jenaisya Moore led the Fury with six and five kills, respectively. Lindsey Vander Weide notched four kills on seven attempts for San Diego.

Set Two

Both teams struggled on the attack in the second set as the Fury hit just 26% and the Mojo weren’t much better at 28%. The difference was made in attacking and serve errors, which Columbus had three of each in the 20-25 second-set loss. Moore led the team with four more kills as Valeria Papa connected five times for the Mojo.

Set Three

Columbus showed fight in the third set and only fell by three points despite trailing by eight early in the set. Reagan Cooper led the Fury attack with seven kills on 21 attempts, with Moore and Rainelle Jones each adding three kills themselves. Errors once again haunted the Fury as they produced four more on the service line and three on the attack.

Set Four

The Fury wouldn’t go down without a fight in the fourth set as the teams traded ten extra points as the Mojo snuck out a 29-31 win. Cooper had another six kills for the Fury and Morgan Lewis countered with seven for San Diego. The Mojo only hit at 10% but it wasn’t enough for the Fury to take the set.
