Cleveland Guardians get RHP Darren McCaughan in trade with Marlins

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following transactions relative to the 40-man roster:

Acquired RHP Darren McCaughan (mih-CACK-en) from the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations; optioned McCaughan to AAA Columbus.

Transferred RHP Gavin Williams to the 60-day Injured List (right elbow inflammation).

McCaughan, 28, was acquired by Miami from Seattle prior to Spring Training and opened the 2024 season with AAA Jacksonville, making 5 starts (1-2, 6.14 ERA) before being recalled by the Marlins on May 3. After appearing in relief on May 4 at Oakland (4.2IP, 8ER), he was designated for assignment on May 5. Originally drafted out of Long Beach State (CA) by Seattle in the 12th round (363rd Overall) of the 2017 MLB Draft, McCaughan made his MLB Debut with the Mariners on July 21, 2021. The Los Alamitos, CA native has pitched in 6 MLB games (1 start) across 3 seasons with Seattle (2021, 2023) and Miami (2024), posting a 9.16 ERA (19ER/18.2IP). McCaughan is 35-47 with a 4.48 ERA (369ER/747.1IP) in 141 career MiLB appearances/132 starts.
