Club Recalls Right-Handed Pitcher Zack Kelly from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Brayan Bello on the 15-Day Injured List, retroactive to April 21, with right lat tightness. To fill Bello’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled right-handed pitcher Zack Kelly from Triple-A Worcester.

Bello, 24, tossed 6.0 scoreless innings last Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing one hit and two walks with seven strikeouts. The right-hander is 3-1 with a 3.04 ERA (9 ER/26.2 IP) and 26 strikeouts in five starts this season. Originally signed by Boston as an international free agent in July 2017, the Dominican Republic native owns a 4.22 ERA (113 ER/241.0 IP) with 213 strikeouts in 46 career Major League games (44 starts).

Kelly, 29, has allowed zero runs and only one hit in 9.0 innings across six games for Worcester this season, striking out 10 batters and walking eight. The right-hander most recently pitched Sunday against Durham, retiring all three batters he faced, including one strikeout. Signed by the Red Sox as a minor league free agent in January 2021, the Virginia native has posted a 3.91 ERA (10 ER/23.0 IP) in 21 career Major League games, all with Boston (2022-23).
