NHL News: Stanley Cup Playoffs Clinching Scenarios

 

Clinching scenarios – last berth into the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs
* Four teams are still in the running for Eastern Conference Wild Card 2, with two having clinching scenarios Tuesday:

  • WASHINGTON (at PHI)
    • Win (any fashion): Clinch Wild Card 2
    • Overtime/Shootout loss: Eliminated if Detroit defeats Montreal in any fashion
    • Regulation loss: Eliminated
  • DETROIT (at MTL)
    • Win (any fashion): Clinch Wild Card 2 if Washington loses to Philadelphia in any fashion, and eliminated if Washington defeats Philadelphia in any fashion
    • Overtime/Shootout loss: Eliminated if Washington gets at least one point vs. Philadelphia
    • Regulation loss: Eliminated
  • PITTSBURGH (idle)
    • No clinching scenarios
    • Eliminated if either Washington or Detroit wins in any fashion
  • PHILADELPHIA (vs. WSH)
    • Regulation win: Eliminated if Detroit gets at least one point vs. Montreal
    • Any other result: Eliminated

Clinching scenarios – playoff seeds

* The Bruins will clinch the Atlantic Division title if they defeat the Senators in any fashion; OR if they get one point vs. the Senators and the Panthers lose to the Maple Leafs in any fashion.

* The Panthers will clinch the Atlantic Division title if they defeat the Maple Leafs in any fashion and the Bruins lose to the Senators in any fashion; OR if they get one point vs. the Maple Leafs and the Bruins lose to the Senators in regulation.

* The Stars (idle) will clinch the Western Conference title if the Canucks lose to the Flames in any fashion.

* The Jets will clinch the No. 2 seed in the Central Division if they get at least one point vs. the Kraken.

* The Canucks will clinch the Pacific Division title if they get at least one point vs. the Flames.

New York Rangers (M1) vs. Washington Capitals (WC2) – Locked if Washington clinches a playoff spot (scenarios outlined above)

New York Rangers (M1) vs. Detroit Red Wings (WC2) – Locked if Detroit clinches a playoff spot (scenarios outlined above)

 

 

Boston Bruins (A1) vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (WC1) and Florida Panthers (A2) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (A3) – Locked if Boston clinches Atlantic Division title (scenarios outlined above)

 

Florida Panthers (A1) vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (WC1) and Boston Bruins (A2) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (A3) – Locked if Florida clinches Atlantic Division title (scenarios outlined above)

Vancouver Canucks (P1) vs. Nashville Predators (WC1) – Locked if the Canucks lose to the Flames in overtime or shootout.

Home ice can be decided in one already-confirmed matchup:

* If the Winnipeg gets at least one point Tuesday vs. Seattle, they will secure home ice in their First Round series against Colorado.
